Doing my 47 8N seals/brakes & due to having a gas water heater & gas heater in my garage I decided to use Purple Power as a degreaser in my Clark parts washer. Wow I should have done this years ago! 3 gallons of Purple Power & 6 or 7 gallons of water make a great degreaser.

This stuff is ("cheap-getcha some") about $3 a gallon at Auto parts store & NON FLAMABLE!!!!

Seems to work as good as the solvent based stuff that is $32 for 5 gallons, & I can now wash the parts in the garage instead of the barn.

Not foamy if I keep the pump tube under the fluid level.I will have to rinse it off with water, but no big deal.

OK...I can't do nuthin' right.
After I get the brake parts cleaned I'll dump it on the honey locust or some evil stuff in the graveyard.

Varsol, is it flamable??
I know diesel & kero are non volital, but just don't want a tank of it in my garage.

That stuff is extremely corrosive You will be look’n fer a new pump and storage tank soon. If there are enny aluminum parts in the pump kiss’em good by . I buy it in a 55 gal. Drum the last I got was $90.00 and delivered to me from South Carolina. I order it uncut or lets say high concentrate not like what you by at yer parts store. But either way it will eat steel over time believe me cuzz I have tried it your way.. I use a plastic pump up sprayer with NO steel parts to apply it or a hand spray bottle. I have a retired pig cooker that I use as my outside clean up station so I kin keep the mess outa shop. I fire it up once a month and burn off the residue and then scoop it out. I will use a 100 lb. cylinder of propane a year doing this. Purple stuff will kill a tree iff’n you dump enough around it. Also will eat up a stump and yer concrete floor so keep a eye on it. Yes you are rite it does a good job on most applications still varsol is the king.

Yep.. varsol is the best all-around.. and chemdip is the best for carbs.

For the small stuff I do.. I just use the cheapy buck a gallon mineral spirits.. decent and washes off pretty easy.. ( cheaper than diesel or kero right now too! )

Sounds good, but with that much water, wouldn't it freeze? I've got 10 gallons of varsol in mine. I work a bit over 400 miles from from home, so I only heat the shop when I'm there, and it goes down to -40 there.

Also paint remover in reply to rasputen, 12-13-2004 18:23:29
I forgot to mention Purple Power removes paint!! So far it has not dammaged my part washer paint, but the brake drums are ready for primer!

Who knows, it may eventually strip my pretty red paint inside the tank, but I really don't mind cause I like the SAFETY.
