i have a 52 8n i got last may, it had a broken draft control guide plate it was broken off on one side of the lower bolt hole,so i ordered a new one, after puting it on the control arms would not go down,it worked fine before i replaced it,so i took off the control spring and backed off on the bolts, the arms went down then, they will go up and down fine with the bolts backed off but when i tighten them the arms will not go down, also when i took off the old plate thear was a 1/4 in shim under one side of the old plate.parts i replaced are 8n 527 and 2n 624 with in parts catalog.what could be wrong?

If there was a shim under the old plate, the previous owner must have done it to avoid making adjustments to the linkage inside the lift cover.

Sounds like when you installed the new parts w/o the old shim, the draft control connecting link(8N 540) position was changed. You"ll probably have to put the shim back in or go into the cover to make proper adjustments.

I don"t think it"s uncommon for the guide pin on the draft control swivel(8n 692)to get bent. To correct it the previous owner may have put in the shim (it would have the same effect as adjusting the connecting link nut).

I"m not an expert like Zane, but I noticed the linkage relationship when I tore mine down & re-assembled it.
