NAA Clutch Fork Pin

When I removed the NAA's clutch fork (that pushes the throw out bearing), it was secured with a steel pin that was mushroomed on the bottom end to hold it in place. It was difficult at best to remove. It's going back in with a new clevis pin and I'm considering using a stainless cotter pin to hold it in place, meaning that the new pin will be much easier to remove next time. Do y'all see any problem with letting that pin float in it's hole with the cotter pin instead of flaring it to hold it rigid?

That pin was put in with it bradded for a purpose. It was done this way to assure that there would be no movement of the fork on the shaft. If it were to move freely the holes and the pin would rapidly wear and eventually there would be no way to adjust the clutch or to prevent the throwout beaing riding the fingers of the pressure plate. It has to be tight!

Yep, I was afraid of that, but thanks for the heads-up. I kept the old pin, think I'll reuse it and peen it into place, I don't think I'll ever need to go there again.

Just did exactly what you are describing a few weeks ago on my Project Rustbucket, I had to drill the mushroomed part off to get it out and several days of soaking with Kroil. Oh, and I had to buy a plumbers torch for that project as well. I think the pin I got from Don B. was a hardened steel pin - but it had the hole at the bottom that I put a cotter pin in and it fit pretty snuggly in the fork/shaft hole (meaning I had to install it with a pin punch). I feel confident I won't have to address this pin again in my lifetime.

Good luck,
Dan
