A was considering purchasing a 40 lb "abrasive blaster." According to the advertised air requirements, my compressor is sufficient. Has anyone used one of these units? Are they any good for tractor restoration paint/rust removal?
Thanks.

In addition to being able to move enough air with your compressor, you've also got to have DRY air. When your compressor is running flat out trying to keep up with the blaster (and it will), the air it provides will be hot and very humid. Moist air will wreak havoc with the blaster and you'll be pulling your hair out trying to keep the abrasive flowing without clogging the nozzle. The best solution is to run black or galvanized pipe for air line instead of just hose. When the hot air hits the cold pipe, the water will condense out so the water separater can catch it. It stays in a vapor form when you just use hose and it will pass right through the separator. I've also seen guys use a coil of copper tubing in a wading pool to condense out the water.

I have a small"Brute"type blaster with a 3/16 tip it takes 2 contractor type 2 horse power compressors tied into one common air tank to try to keep up with the air demand and I still have to stop to let air build up.Sand blasting even with a small tip takes a lot of air .Its not so much pressure but volume you need a lot of CFM.If you can supply the air the small blaster will do a good job. Hope this helps .
