No spark at the plugs

Hello,
Here is the problem, there is no spark at the plugs. I have juice going into the coil. I thought it was the coil so I replaced the coil. Well still no spark. The tractor is a 9n with a front distibutor 8n motor. The gasket is missing off the distibutor cap and I guessing the rotor and the cap are misaligned? It seems like the points are operating when I spin the shaft or drive gear. Any suggestions? I don't want to keep replacing parts. Thanks,
Ryan

Unsnap bail on coil and remove cork gasket between coil and distributor..reinstall coil and if you need to just put a piece of cardboard on top of the coil under the bail so it will temporarily hold the coil in place..If it cranks like this..you know it is the pigtail spring or the flat contact not making contact.....Like to have never got mine to run with the gasket..I was afraid to stretch on the coily spring very much but the dealer told me to do it and if it broke he would replace it, so I stretched it gently and did the trick.....

RPV..... .....remember, you gitt sparkies when the points open. Has nuttin to do with yer gaskets or rotor alignment. Iff'n the points wire/sheetmetal conductor is shorted to ground, then all the points opening and closin' won't make diddly sparky, 'cuz them lazy electrons have an eazier way home to ground..... ....Dell

I just went through a bunch of front mount distributor problems. Since you have voltage at the top of the coil stretch the coiled spring pigtail at the bottom of the coil to ensure it makes contact with the brass cupped head screw that goes through the points insulator block. I made sure mine worked by testing with the distributor out of the tractor and using an ohm meter grounded to the distributor and the probe touching the pigtail and ensuring it connected each time the points closed.

I also have had bad condensers from time to time and if you have a digital voltmeter that can check capacitors it should be around 360 nanofarads. I also have had a bad new coil once too.
