You can do all the usual stuff like rings and a valve job pretty easily. The fun part comes in if you need to have the crank polished/ground or if you need new sleeves as you would have to make a special installation/removal tool. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. A flathead 4 cyl engine isn't that complicated.

I took my 2N engine to a shop for a rebuild and they basically polished the crankshaft, honed the cylinders, ordered the proper rings and bearings for me and I put everything back in myself. This was the first time I have ever worked on an engine in my life. If I can do it, you can too. But like I said, i left all the complicated machine work stuff to the pros.

Robert..... ...what Jeb sez..... and remember, N-tractors were designed for horsefarmers, you can operate a computer, and have access to this great N-Board for hand-holding. 2-things..... ..
1) gitta I&T FO-4 manual, $22US, (cheap)
2) gitta compression reading, Ford specs: 90psi min (dry)
N-Engines are EXCELLENT 1st mechanic starter engines. Only wierd thing is their replaceable dry cylinder sleeve (insteard of boring the block) ..... ..Dell
