I just bought an 8n today I am experienced with 8ns already. I am curious about what I need for the lower drawbar I see TSC sells what looks like the drawbar itself is there anything else I will need for it? Doesn't it go up underneath the tractor and attach at a couple places? I know it attaches at the very rear. Thanks

The original 11 hole drawbar that came with the N's was furnished with a pair of drawbar stays and the hydraulic stop button and chain with warning tag is all one needs for normal work. The swinging drawbar and bracket that Steve PA pictured was an accessory iten intended for towing light items such as a hay rake or other tool, also helped with shortening the turning radius. Used with the original furnished drawbar and stays. The fixed extended V shaped drawbar was also an accessory and Tim Pa's photo of it is missing two items that were included in that option. The missing items are the PTO adapter-extender and the PTO shield. That setup was especially ment to be used with heavy implements such as a PTO driven combine or baler.

Thanks for the info Gaspump. I am going to get the parts I need for the 11 hole drawbar like that 8n I spent alot of time useing and also get the kit to install the drawbar mounted underneath. I am suprised the 9ns don't seem to have that option I guess the 2ns are the same? I am glad I got an 8n for that reason now that I discovered this

In my opinion rtather than spending a lot of money for all sorts of drawbars I would opt for the swinging drawbar kit that has the 4 bolt anchor and pin, the rear hanger that bolts around the PTO output shaft and the lonf swinging drawbar. This IMO is a stronger safer setup and was available for N's and NAA's in 1951 or 1952. About $130.

I appriciate the all this info. I haven't looked at the underneath of my 8n yet I will as soon as they deliver it. They were planning on it today or tomorrow but we are in for an ice storm here in nother OK today and tomorrow GRIN. What I am wondering now is do all 8ns have the mounting holes for this drawbar?? or is the later ones? I don't know the year of mine and I didn't look to see where the distribitur is either. I really am wondering about that.

The original 8N Drawbars hooked to the bottom of the tractor under the PTO shaft to a bracket bolted to the differential with 4 bolts. A very large pin went through this bracket, through the drawbar, and again through the bracket on the other side and was secured by a spring loaded twist lock scheme. The drawbar you found at TSC will not fit the stock drawbar bracket - the hole in the drawbar that would be secured by the original pin is too small. TSC sells the entire drawbar kit that includes a different drawbar bracket.

That said, I use the TSC drawbar with my original bracket by replacing the large pin with a hardened radius arm pin completely through the original bracket and TSC drawbar, and put a large cotter pin through the radius arm pin hole at the top of the bracket. I put a large washer in between the cotter pin and bracket to make it more stable. I would not trust this "rig" to a hard or heavy load, but it works just fine for my hay wagon.

Good luck,
Dan
