Just curious if anyone has turned to synthetic engine oil for a longer lasting engine??? It seems that many of our fantastic little N's are always needing ring jobs?

I emailed one of the companies making synthetic oil, and their reply was that they didn't reccomend it for anything older than the 80's due to seal or gasket incompatibility.

I take that to mean that a fresh or at least newer rebuild would be fine though.

Personally I think it is the nature of the beast. Most tractors are in need because of age, and diligent changes more often will suffice. Id use a good detergent oil on a rebuilt engine. In cold climates a blend might be in order. Mobile technicians recommend a quart of Mobile 1 with balance good detergent. The synthetic oil will reach places normal oil wont quicker. It would be more cost efficient, and you might change more often.
