Dell, I am going to copy and paste one of your responses to a similar problem that I am currently having. I have to start my 8n with ether. If I shut it off even after running 1/2 hour or so, it wont restart without the ether. You replied to someone back in Nov.04, that they could "re-furb" the spark plugs. Is it possible that mine are too far soiled? I have not put new ones in since flooding three or four times but starting with ether. The following is your reply from Nov. 04. to refresh your memory.

"Re-furb your old sparkies, one-atta-time, in your good & hot running engine, for next time you flood. (ALWAYS PAYS to have a spare set of DRY sparkies for when you flood yer engine)..... ...Dell"
P.S. I hope I did'nt break any copyright laws. Rick. T

just my 2c worth.. If I am going to the trouble to remove and replace the plugs, you can be guaranteed I am going to spend the 5 bucks and replace them with new. No sense wasting time just to find that you have not fixed the problem.

Rattzie..... ....Iff'n yer haffin' to use ether quick start all the time, you ain't gotta sparkie problem, you've gotta tired engine problem. Do the dreaded engine compression check. Ford specs: 90psi min (dry).

My re-ferbish techneque is to dry out flooded sparkies (only). Using the running engine combustion heat to dry and burn off the contaminating invisable flood deposits on the center insulator that cause the sparkies to leak-off and not fire..... ...Dell

Not Dell.....but there are two cheap & quick ways to clean flooded plugs; with 4 good plugs in the engine, remove one at a time w/ the fouled plugs until you have run all 4 of the fouled plugs at operating temp. That, or heat carefully w/ a propane torch. Some folks might still have the old style sand blaster around; that works. People stopped cleaning plugs when the cost got down to less than a buck a plug.

If I can start it and run it at operating temp with all 4 plugs in, will that do the same thing?

ZANE AND I STILL USE SAND BLASTERS TO CLEAN PLUGS FOR THE N'S. IT WORKS FINE. I QUIT CLEANING CAR PLUGS A LONG TIME AGO BECAUSE THE ENGINES BURN SO CLEAN AND THE PLATMIUM PLUGS GO ALMOST FOREVER. GOOD LUCK

Probably, because the concept is that running them burns the residue off. But, if you already have them out, I'd use the torch.
