c15 SH 8n7006(the 6 could be a G or a very unclear 8)But looks mostly like a 6.What do these codes translate to?The number by the hydraulic oil drain is 2-4-48.I was told the build date was near the starter.I thought the c15 would mean march 15,but was told im missing a digit to indicate the year.Who knows?

I got it figured out I looked at my other 8n. What would 8n c below the date of manufacturing mean?

Here is the casting mark meanings;
No 8N = early 8N - front mount (maybe left over 2N blocks??) I have one.
8N = front mount dist. and steel sleeves
8N-B = side mount dist. and steel sleeves
8N-C = side mount dist. and cast iron sleeves

Regards,
Larry

You MAY run into a block that HAD steel sleeves and was bored to take the cast iron.

Thanks the numbers i were looking at are actually on the transmission housing a few inches from the starter housing. I was looking in the wrong spot. I will have to wait till i get my block back from the machine shop.That was a great picture where did ya find it?

Go to the left side of this page and find the "parts and pieces" gallery. Type in 8N and take a look and file this away for future reference. Many of the pictures that get posted are located in this gallery and are always available. 8NC I believe indicates a late sidemount block.

the 8n c is a late sidemount, that would make sense,it has the later style upper lift arms and a serial starting 499(i cant remember the rest). Thanks steve b.
