I tried using 10w30 here in Texas and it worked ok till it hot and then my oil pressure would drop from about 35psi to about 10psi at idle. So I went to 10w40. Now when it reaches operating temp it will hold about 20/25psi at idle. Hope this helps

No such thing as best. Many will work, and some better than others in different application. Many people on this board use plain old straight 30. Many use 10w-30 (as I do). Because of the cold Maine winters I often add in a quart or 2 of 5W-30 in winter.

For me, 10w40, any brand, as long as it has the api starburst logo on the side of the bottle.

Rod, I had my engine professionally rebuilt about 8 years ago. I tried 10W30 the first oil fill but was not happy with the low oil pressure when working in the summer. Since the first oil change I have used straight 30W Pennzoil. It has more oil pressure when hot and starts without a hitch down in the 0F temperatures we experience here on the East Coast in the dead of winter. (12v/electronic ignition)
