Thanks to John Smith I am the proud owner of the correct generator for my 1960 641.

Got it (after FedEx Gnd gave it a tour of the country???) withy pully & mounts.

It's going to the gen shop for a 12v rebuild & then on my tractor for an origonal looking 12v.

Can't stand that (good working) delco hanging off my 45 year old Ford!!

But then....I freely admit I'm nutz.
Thanks John

I also have a 12v rebuilt generator instead of an alternator. I got mine from Jim Cox who is a frequent poster on this site. It works great and looks great too! You're not crazy for wanting it to look original, you're just "detail oriented", or at least that's what my wife calls me when I do stuff like that!!

John - When I was cleaning mine up I made the mistake of painting the genny red before I got the charging circuit working. I took the genny in to the local genny shop. They worked it over and repainted it BLACK! I couldn't complain - they thought they were doing me a favor. I had to repaint it.

The lesson is - if looks are important to you get it working first then paint.

Yeah, they always paint them black. At least it keeps them from rusting!

I also like the look of a genny as opposed to an alternator... just looks more elegant.

There's also a durability issue... With no semi-conductors in the genny.. it tends to be a bit robust, especially around novice 'electricians', whereas an alternator may not tolerate much abuse due to the sensitive vr or bridge circuitry.
