I"m putting my 8n back together a year after I tore it down. My first flathead. Reading the instruction manual it said the rods went in with oil hole either frontward or backward. I failed to read, numbers going toward camshaft. Question is, are these rods offset so they have to be installed only one direction?

I learned not to trust the numbers to the cam theory. Some rebuilt rods have numbers other places or no numbers at all.

The rod bearing inserts locking tabs alway go to the left side of the engine. That is the left if ou are sitting on the tractor.

The oil filler side in other words.

Sett'n on the seat, driver/operator facing FORWARD. (grin) John,PA

PS: After years of operating forklifts, my main boss is suffering from back/neck problems. Everytime DAVE, Sr. is transporting bins of apples from one warehouse to another, or, loading a truck for "International Shippments", well, he has to turn his body to see if there is any obstructions that was put in HIS way.

I says to him, Dave, let me put a ROTATING seat on your forklift for ya. That was about 30 yrs. ago. He said "don't worry about it". His favorite expression. But Dave, says I "what is the difference, your glasses are always FOGGED up anyhow when you come out of the room that I made COLD".

Well, from turning his upperbody all those years, well, WE almost LOST HIM. Internal blockage in HIS GUTS!!!!! !

John, D.

You tell him that he has at least one person who is completely sympathetic to his pain. That is what happened to me back in October of 04. It was caused by a blockage in my intestens. Mine was from a big hernia about the size of a grapefruit that was caused from surgery to repair my aortic anurysm back in 94. The incision never healed back right and left a big hole with no muscle. Just skin over the gut. I had to lie down and push it back for years from time to time. Especially if I strained lifting etc.

Now it is fixed and I think it is fixed good. Tell Sr. that there is life after the pain. I am doing great now. I am still careful not to do too much straining and lifting. Don't want to do that again any time soon. My wife said that now I know what it is to have a baby. I always told the family that I was going to give birth to an alein and by golly I did!

Dave is OK, now too.

He is crawling (climbing) up and down the OAK applebins, stacked 9 high, like we always did, and sometimes must still do. I always go up the 35 ft. first to make sure the boards are in good shape and make sure the nails are rusted off or someth'n. If they are, (the nails), I git the pneumatic nailer and fix the boards at the corners.

I send a bill to the OWNER of the bulk-bins!

3rd party equipment during our rental periods.

Thanks, John,PA

Does not matter on the rods on the N. Wrist pin bosses are offset and notch on the piston goes to the front of the engine.

That makes sense. I did get pistons right direction. I was really wondering about rods when I read two #4 rods takin it apart.Last guy musta had no 3 stamp or a mix and match motor.
Thanks guys
