Noticed on my 2n 12 volt, that the P1 terminal on the alternator is connected to the battery terminal. All the diagrams I"ve seen have P2 to Battery. Does this make any difference? Someone tried to do a fast job of converting it and they half succeeded.

Thanks Steve!

It has always "bugged" me when people refer to the #1 and #2 terminals as "P"1 and "P"2, and I've wondered where they got the letter "P" from.

Well, since the Genuine Delco "POOP SHEET" makes NO mention of the letter "P" being attached to the #1 and #2 terminals, perhaps we can dispense with the "P" thing?

Russ..... ...without the feedback from the BIG BATT STUD to the P-2 remote voltage sense, your alternator may pump out as much as 17 volts unregulated to the battery and boil it over. Since the P-2 is an "input only" scheme amplifier, the P-2 won't output ennythang to continue to power the ignition coil like the P-1 "excite" does. And while I doubt that incorrectly plugging P-1/P-2 will damage the internal solidstate guttz, I'd taker in for a "free" checkout..... ...Dell

AHA! All P"s are not created equal. Thank you, Dell. Wasn"t sure what each terminal"s job was. I need to put the ammeter back into the system, too. Same guy that converted this probably thought a 1944 bungee cord made a good battery tiedown.

I copied this from a post some time ago. It works. My case is wired to a oil pressure sender.

It will only work if your one wire alternator is really a 3 wire alternator. Look and see if there is a rubber plug covering two spade terminals. If there is, you can go to NAPA and get a terminal connector that will fit it.

Terminal #2 is the sense line, and you can connect it to the big lead going to the battery. Terminal #1 is the L (for Lamp) terminal, and it goes to the idiot light, which then goes to the ignition switch.

The advantage of this setup as the alternator will start charging at a much lower RPM. I did this to my Oliver, which the PO had converted to a 1 wire alternator, and it worked great."

Thanks, Sam. I have the n-series.com wiring diagram of one "correct" way. That shows the P2 to BAT terminal. Easy enough to switch.
