That was me asking about dry filters. When I bought the tractor it did not have the steel air pipe just a bunch of rad hoses clamped together. My hood don't have the air cleaner door on it and seems like the oil bath filter is in the way of installing a proof meter cable. Plus my engine is weak and I thought the dry filter would breath better and maybe start easier in the cold. Thanks for the picture. I have picked up a nice dry filter about same diameter but 1/2 as tall as original that will fit in nicely. Just need to get air pipe to hook up.

If your tractor is so weak that the percolating oil bath air filter prevents starting.. I think you need to invest in repairs.. not inferior designed dry filters...

In my original post a week or two ago I asked if the use of a dry filter would work to help air flow. My engine is in need of rebuilding. Only has about 80# compression but I can't tear down untill the snow is done. My problem is when it's below 20 degrees if it don't start on the first few revolutions it will flood and I thought a dry filter would bandaid that a little untill spring. Tractor starts instantly over 20.

put a rad hose heater on it and plug it in when it's cold.

When you said weak.. I thought you meant 60-75psi compression.. heck.. 80 psi.. I wouldn't rebuild it.. Remember.. 90 is factory spec... Ther eare lots of 80 psi tractors working every day with no thought of rebuild onthe horizon.

If it floods easy.. that means you have plenty of compression to get gas up the carb. Look at the float level.. and check / clean the carb.. might have mainjet problems.. or float problems.

A oil bath air filter is far superior to a pleated paper cone style.. and should be less resistance.. as you have more surface area to filter the incoming air. Only the very first puff has big risistance.. as the oil is in the cup.. that gets splashed up into the fibers... I'd clean the air filter if you thought it was plugged.. but I wouldn't replace it.. nor would I rebuild an 80 psi engine unless I had lotsa time and money laying around.

Do a full ignition tune up and clean your electrical connections.. service the carb and air filter.. I think you will find you have a 'new' tractor..

Before you put a K&N filter on your tractor you might want to read this test on air cleaners, air filtration.
