Anyone know how to change a ring gear on an 8N?
Is there a online service manual available?

You tractor engine will almost always stop when shutdown with the key or switch at the same place on the ring gear.If you "lug it down" it will usually stop in a different spot on the ring gear.So you will have "fresh teeth" for your starter to engage.Or you can tun the engine somewith a handcrank a few degress to use the "fresh teeth"Just a tip for you until you can fix it.

Ring gear swap is not hard just time consuming and labor intense, you have to remove the engine as if you were replacing the clutch. The old ring gear I knocked off with a chisel and hammer, while I was doing that I had the new one heating in the kitchen oven at 400 degrees for 40 minutes brought it out held it up to the flywheel tapped it on to start then used a drift to set it all of the way down against the flywheel (very important to bottom it out against the flywheel) put on a new starter bendix put the engine back on and all went well, the whole job can be done in a day with help, 2 if your alone.

Thanks for the help. I think I can "limp it" through the balance of the winter, and get the work done once the weather breaks here. I am beginning to think it is time to unload this "old beast of burden though"
