Hi,almost done the 48.I am going to get rid of my other tractor.I am not sure of the year, a front distributor 8n anyway.I know it is hard for all of you to judge sight unseen, but humor me.The paint is not so hot(the guy I got it from painted right over the old paint,(Ford blue)The sheet metal is original except for the fenders, which are an orchard style(homemade I think)The hood is very straight and not all dented but an issue of rust along the sides.Good doglegs and original headlights.Converted to 12v.It has new rubber on the front and weather checked on rear.It also has a dearborn 19-2 dozer blade. The wife says I am reaching at that price,so I thought I'd see what you guys thought. If geography is factor Im in NY.

Watch the local ads and see what 8N's are selling for in your area. I'd start by asking $2500. You can always go down from there. You'll never get more than your asking price.

Last summer, local guy put a "49 8N with a sherman out in the yard with a sign on it. Two days later the same tractor has a new paint job (rattle can) and the sign now has a price of $3900 on it. This tractor had sat in a lean-to for 10 years and I never saw it move once. By the end of the week the tractor was gone. No idea what it went for but it went pretty quick so I guess it was somewhere around $3,000. I would have thought it was have been a good buy at $1500 based on condition but I wasn"t the buyer.

I have to throw my two cents in. I think your tractor is not an 8N but probably a 2N , with front distributor. My limited experience here in downstate NY is that the values of this tractors are in their running conditions and implements, not how pretty they look. I recently took an old dog like the one you decribed, sunk a ton of $ into it, made it look like new, and it's value is still undermined. It will sell for what ever someone is willing to pay for it. In rural parts of NY where many small farms and large land owners live, these tractors are almost a necessity, mowing, cultivating, etc. I think your price is good, and with the dozer blade you're right on. Is the dozer blade the kind with the large undercarrage frame and steel cables attached to the rear lift arms?

The early 8N's had front distributors, same as 9N/2N. The side distributor models didn't appear until sometime in 1950.

I am in NY also, when I was looking locally for an 8n most of them were 2000-2500 without any extras. I end up geting one in Conn. for $1500.

You left out the most important stuff - How does it run? Smokes? Brakes work? Are the hyds ok? All more important than a little rust or bad paint. The 19-2 is worth a few hundred $ so overall the price is probably ok, maybe even a steal.
