I'm just curious. What are the two little caps with 4 holes in them on the front mount distributor? Thanks

Rick, those little "caps" are vents to dissipate moisture in the distributor. Lugnut

Should they be open or is there a filter media of some sort in them? Or should I clean them out? Most likley grease and dust if its not a filter. Thanks for the reply.
Rick.

Rick, not sure--never had to clean mine. There is a filter media, I believe. Maybe someone smarter than me will help out. Have you tried blowing them out (well, not all the way out)? Lug

Mine had a fine brass mesh across them. At least I think it was brass. Could have been some other metal. They should be open. This helps to prevent the distributor from being "water logged". Ever notice how your N might not start after washing it? That's why. Moisture in the distributor is a bad thing!

The front mount distributor has a distributor cap with four holes for the spark plug wires. I have never seen or heard of one with two caps. If yours has two caps please post a picture. James

Not the cap itself. The distributor. It has two "caps" that have four smaller holes in each, one on the bottom and one on the upper right side looking at the front of the distibutor. The "caps" are over a hole in the distributor.Perhaps for ventilation? I am just curious as I just changed my points, was looking at the distributor.
