What is the part number for the pin that always wears out in the hyd unit and should be replaced per the video? I think it's called the cam follower pin. I bet Dan just replaced his.

When I did mine last summer, I just cut the unthreaded portion of a 5/16 bolt off and used it. Never drove it out or in, a little heat on the yoke around it, and it'll almost fall out. Reheat again, and put the new one into position. A few seconds of cooling, and you're ready to go. I thought about using a hardened pin instead of just steel, but, figured that I'd rather the pin wear again rather than the cam, so that someone else can replace it 50 years from now when it needs done again.

Speaking of parts Numbers/Books in reply to greywynd, 01-20-2005 01:08:59
I posted this the other day on the Ford Board, but no-one really gave me a clear cut answer. Can one of you guys here with a parts book check this out for me?
Something I've forgot to ask you guys, but have been meaning to for sometime. At somepoint in the past, someone hit the PTO shaft on my tractor, forcing it forward. I know that this usually does one of two things, either pops the snap ring out, and allows the shaft to float fore and aft, or breaks the casting at the snap ring groove. Unfortunately this is what happened to my 540. I rarely use the PTO, so it's not a big deal, but, I do want to fix it. A new housing from FNH is about $300 here, and I'm guessing pricy elsewhere too.
My 'local' tractor boneyard doens't have any for the x00 or x01 series, but, does have some from 8n's, and maybe from jubilee's. Can someone tell me if they are the same? I don't have an 8n or naa to compare it with, and it would maybe save me a trip, or help to make it worthwhile.

Thanks,
Mark

P.S. I keep thinking that a CD parts books would be nice, it would allow me to crossover these parts myself. Maybe next christmas if I'm good?

Ramrod - looks like Jim UT has it right, that is the correct part number for the NAA Cam Follower Pin. Good luck on the replacement, and try not to bend up any arms like I did :-)

The ONE day I did not bring my Master Parts Manual to work, is the day you ask for a part number! I will verify the part number tonight as soon as I get home and will post back. I did replace mine, it was worn more than half way through, but the new pin was much more snug in the hole than the original was (much harder to drive in than to push out with a pin punch). I pity the next soul that has to punch this one back out...

Good luck,
Dan

Got it, see the link below. It is 374072-S, about a buck from Joe at FNH. If it warms up this weekend, I"m gonna sand blast and paint my rear section and start the rebuild on my hyd unit, which will be the last section on the tractor to get the treatment. I completed my steering box this weekend and hung the front axle. It"s starting to look like a tractor again, gonna be on schedule for mowing this spring if I don"t mess up something.

The same part number applies to 8N and NAA. The number is 374072-S.
