Ever since the fix ---- Problems for the 8N Wizards

Ever since I 'fixed' ole chunky - my 1949/50 8N hybrid, I have been having a strange problem. It is a front-mount distributor version - everything converted to 12V. When I used to start it up - it was strong and quick via the button - no problems.
Now, it makes a distinctive 'whirling' of the starter - and just sounds 'weak' - I never heard this high-pitched whirling of the starter before. It was always strong and swift.

Also - the carb or gov or something seems misaligned now. I have to keep it at 2/3 to full to make it sound like it is not going to stall and I get some sputters in the exhaust that I never had before. Could this be related to an adjustment of the points or something? (one thing we tried when the tractor was dead) - fuel, air look clean and are good flow in both. Anything else that could be make this happen?

Unit has new distributor, cap, points, wires, condensor, alternator, battery & plugs. Start noise is strange - like it is 'over-hitting' it or something. Any advice on the noise?
Thanks

Andy

Andy..... .Starter problems.....anything from "its about to puke its guts", to bad cable connections. I'd probably take it off and disassemble for inspection of bearings and brushes. Make certain Bendix drive is clean and dry and not oily, greezy, or gummy.

2/3 throttle problem. One of the founding members of this N-Board used to claim 80% of all carburator problems were found in the ignition system. Since you allude to muckin' round with distributor, my guess 1) check the points gap. The've been known to slip and this affects your ignition timing. Then the obvious, 2) check the timing. ..... ..Dell
