I have owned a 1947 Ford 2N for a little over 15 years. I have worked it hard in residential construction without putting much more than fuel and oil. Now while I am in the restoration mode, re-condition motor, brakes, etc. I am now researching the paint. The tractor has the faded colors of an 8N, the red and grey, however all the literature calls this model to be grey/grey. Does anyone know of the transition model year to have painted some "47 model 2N"s the late model red and grey? Thanks for your input and I really have enjoyed the info from this site. Rg

Here is a patch of original paint I found under the hood badge on my 1945 2N. Some of the paint recommended seems a little too dark. But it has been said that ford used probably just about any grey available so there is a lot of variation...HTH Tim

Rg..... ...your research is semi-correct. ALL 9N/2N's were factory painted solid gray, institutional gray, machinery gray, forest gray, battleship gray. (various names for basic gray) Dealers often repainted 9N/2N's to the more attractive 8N redbelly color scheme for eazier sales to the unknowing. And many owners also repainted to the 8N redbelly color scheme 'cuz they liked better. Its yer tractor, paint it any color that pleases you. I won't report you to the tractor police..... .....Dell

Answer: Never. The Script hood didn't come out until midway through the 8N production. All 9N and 2N tractors had plain hoods. Same for air cleaner grill on the side of the hood.
