8N not starting...

I have a 51 8N. I can"t get it to start.

I have fuel to the carb and no ice in the carb/tank/lines.

I have spark at the plugs, does seem a bit weak, but it"s 5 degrees.

I cleaned the plugs with a bit of emery cloth and the distributer too.

I tried a shot of starter fluid in the plugs and carb also.

It turns over well. It will produce some exhaust and try to sputter but it wont take off?

...could this be a stuck valve issue?

Thanks.

Sal..... ...its NOT a stuckvalve issue, its a 5* issue. And while a quick shot of ether quickstart usually will fire a weak sparkie, it won't fire FLOODED sparkies. Modern no-lead gasoline leaves invisable sparkieleaks and the ONLY quick cure is a new set of NEW DRY SPARKIES. Recommend the hotter AutoLite AL-437 gapped 0.025..... ...Dell, self-appointed sparkie-meister

Plugs are easy enough to do...Would you still suggest the AutoLite AL-437 on a 12v conversion?

Thanks

Sal,
Yes, the 437"s are good at keeping themselves clean. Make sure you have good, copper core, limber plug wires, too. I just got a 2N and the old and stiff carbon core wires just didn"t cut it with the wet weather we were having. Incidentally, even though the points LOOKED good and were set correctly, I didn"t get a real snappy blue spark until I swapped them out for new ones.

Sal..... ...yes, recommend AutoLite AL-437 sparkplugs for ALL N-Engines, 6 or 12v don't matter. They seem to work best with modern no-lead gasoline..... ..Dell

Thanks for the info...I will give it a shot.

Dell, I'll let you know if this takes care of my "5* issue".

Thanks again.
