Hello All, Anyone have any suggustions on bearing and seal replacement on 8n gov. ( part nos. 18182 , 18183 in f4 manual ).Do I drive them out ? or do you rig up a puller of some sort ? Also how critical is the .022" spacing on the fly ball assembly shaft ? I have .035" but the tractor ran pretty good overall (could not get top end rpms to 2200 )I pulled the gov. mostly to repair oil drips and am replacing balls ,seal , bearing, and gasket. Thanks for your time, your help is much apreshe8ed . Roy

I'm no governor expert like some of these guys are...but yes, I think the .35" (and I do assume you mean .22 and .35 and not .022 and .035) is excessive. What will basically happen is that the cone will be able to travel too far back and the balls will fly out too far and will end up running against the cast aluminum or pewter housing of the governor and either wear through it or crack it. They make shims specifically for setting this spacing so I suggest you get some and make it right. Might help you get up closer to that top rpm as well .....that plus makin sure the rpm limiting stop bolt located between the governor and the block is adjusted properly. Good luck....and of course....I am sure you realize the governor was held on by two different length bolts....make darn sure you put the shorter of the two in the upper hole when you bolt it back on the N. Good luck!
