Proofmeter Dial Face Replacement

Needed to replace the badly weathered dial face on my 8N Proofmeter. Ordered paper-like replacement face. Removed proofmeter after repair part receipt. Discovered that the metal ring (bezel?) that holds the glass face and seal onto the meter body apparently needs to be pried off.

Tried some gentle persuasion but was concerned that I was going to ruin the metal ring and not find a replacement. Couldn't find anything describing this particular issue in the archives.

Can anyone offer a suggestion for a successful and non-damaging method of removal?

Thanks..... .Del

I used a paint can opener. It has a curved flat tip that is tapered and allows you to get under the lip of the bezel without the marks you get with the screwdriver. Recrimp the bezel with pliers, masking tape reduces the scratches. HTH

The bezel was originally mechanically crimped. A small screwdriver can be used to pry around the edge. It will look ugly. When you reassemble, try not to mar the front. The back will be hidden against the dash.

Thanks to Barnstormer, SteveB and DonTX for your input.

Gently pried the bezel off today. Good thing that it is brass. I believe that I will be able to salvage it.

The masking tape tip is good.

Thanks again..... ....Oregon Del
