Fill Tubeless Tires??

I have another tractor that has some tubless rims/tires on
the rear and want to fill them to reduce tire slip. Can this be done reliably? I can"t think of a reason I shouldn"t, assuming there is enough antifreeze to manage the rust potential. Am I missing something? Any insight would be appreciated.

Smaller lawnmower or compact tractor tubless tires are often filled with antifreeze/water for ballast without ill effect. It is relatively easy to do on such small tires by laying the tire/wheel on its side and breaking only the top bead. Just pour the antifreeze in. You may need another set of hands and/or an inflatable bead expander to seat the bead so as to air the tire. Obviously you would not want to use calcium chloride.

Like Bob mentioned.. you can 'go tube' like Bob says.. or use a correct antifreeze product that will help prevent corrosion.. however.. don't use CACL. Rimguard might even be an option (beetjuice).

Unless they're some really odd size, it wouldn't cost too much to put tubes in them, and keep the ballast out of contact with the rim.

Thanks for the input guys. The tires and weights are on and I'm looking for the quick solution. I'll put tubes in next time I have to change tires. Thanks again for the info.

You don't have to completely change tires to insert tubes. Just deflate, collapse one bead inward/away from the rim and insert the tube. Use a string and/or cable with a stem-puller to pull the tube stem thru the hole, and fill 'er up!
