I need to change my tie rod ends and steering sector bushings.Any tips you guys could give me would be appreciated. The clamps holding the tie rod ends have been tack welded to the rod or tubeI hope that wont pose too much of a problem in removal. Will I have to remove the trans top cover to remove and install the sector bushings or do I have a snowballs chance of "drivem in" from the side.A lot of the slack seems to come from the sector bushings but if its really a hard fix I may not do it.

...and if you have slack in your steering and your steering wheel rises with the slack, it's not just the sector gear bushings, it's the bearings on the steering shaft. BTW, the sector shaft bushings will need to be honed to fit the shafts. After market bushings are much worse about this than FNH bushings. Fill it with JD corn head grease when you're through.

Rachel,
If it"s a 9N or 2N, ya hafta take the top half of the steering box off. The sector bushings are a two piece deal. There is a two piece seal outboard of each set, also. Bushing part number 9N3517, 4 required. The seal is called "packing" in the parts book and the part number is 9N3670. Also required 4.
If it"s an 8N, disregard the above.
Russ
