FEL and the 8N

Been looking to add a larger tractor with a FEL.

Am I right in thinking a 8N with a FEL has some real limitations? Seems like the weight is an issure, steering, usability and getting on/off can be a challenge.

I was told the N's with loaders were good for snow and manure...they were an innovation in their time.

I am looking to move building materials, gravel, stone and do some digging...

Thanks.

I have a 51 8N with a Wagner loader. It came with a 3' gravel bucket and an insanely heavy 6' snow bucket. The dealer I bought it from put the widest truck tire he could fit on the front wheels. I have calcium chloride in the rear wheels, chains year round & extra weight on the rear(on the drawbar). It has down pressure on the bucket. I have used it over the years to build tractor roads, plow snow, carry a full bucket load of rocks, or sand or whatever. It does steer HARD with a full load. But it works.
Much as I love my 8N, if I were begining over, I would get a later model Ford with power steering.

If you are a business man, the 8N is not for you to move a lot of dirt and materials. I've had my '51 8N with a Wagner loader for 51 years. I've moved a bit of dirt, something around 8-10 thousand yards, in that time. My curent house was about 2000 yards. I'm only a home owner with a hobby. A bigger tractor with a bigger bucket and with power steering would have been a godsend.

An 8N with loader is nice but when it comes to moveing much of anything real heavy thats where its lost. To do any real loader work you need one in the 50hp range, also power steering, fluid in the tires and or wheel weights. Also you want a loader with down preasure, a bucket as wide or wider the the wheels, cylinders on the bucket, and also a heavy duty if you plan to do any real digging with it.
