I am in the prosses of restoring a 1948 8N and about to wire it. it also has a front mount dist and I am changing it to 12 volt. my question is how can I find a wire diagram, is there one that covers the whole machine including the 12 conversion or should I roll up my sleeves and just use good commen automotive sense? This is my first restoration I waslooking foward to working the tractor in my landscaping company pulling a york rake or mowing but its too pretty to get dirty.

I asked this guy if I could give you his e-mail address and he said I could. He has the best, simplest conversion and it cost very little to do it and no marker lights and such. Contact Larry at landcranch@leapmail.net

I need one for a 2n as well and would like to know if I have to change the starter motor with a 12 volt starter?

Hello Tom, in reply to your follow up I would not upgrade the starter for 12 volt conversion I'm no expert but I can see no reason not to use your existing starter. I would make sure that it is in good condition though, take it apart clean and inspect it rebuild if needed. when you complete your conversion the starter will spin faster. rember not to run the starter exessively and you should be fine. I believe that all 12 volt conversions are negative ground

You do not have to change the starter. Just don't grind and grind on the starter if it happens to be slow about starting.
