I just pulled the motor on the 8-N, low compression & oil consumption. There were washers
under the pressure plate. Has anyone seen this before? 9n8nron

Read page 36 paragraph 44. Flywheel. Check thickness and also check clutch release fork that works the release bear地 retainer pin may be bent and let it slip and the washers were installed to git enough pedal height to release clutch. Washers were install to correct a problem with the clutch and will reduce clapp'n force on the clutch disc. When you reassemble it try the clutch after you install the bolts in the bell house地 , put弾r in gear either jack up a wheel or try and turn over the engine wile hold地 the clutch petal down.

Someone may have put the washers there to get the clutch release finger height where they thought it should be, perhaps with a thicker-than-normal lined disc.

The result COULD be less spring pressure holding the pressure plate against the lined disc. Was it slipping, or was it holding as it was set up?

Ron..... ..what Hobo said.....ain't supposta be enny washers (spacers) between pressure plate and flywheel. Bettcha the previous mechanic didn't pay attention to the clutch plate hub which is "OFF-SET" and draggs iff'n installed bassakwards. Put summ spacers under the pressure plate and vola' doesn't drag and DUMB WRONG..... ..respectfully, Dell
