Need part number.... or advice?!

Howdy,

Need some help here. I have been working on my 9N and in the taking apart and puttin gback together, I managed to break the small oil line that runs from the bottom of the oil filter canister into the block. Went to my friendly New Holland folks (they really are!) but all I got was a - huh? All of their drawings show the oil line going from there around the front of the motor into the governer.

Went home and broke out my handy IT manual and all of the "pictures" only show the set up for the 8N.... I also have an 8N and sure enough, it goes to the back of the governer. There was a note in the manual that states something like the later model 8Ns had the extra oil line added to provide better lubrication for the governer, but never showed the set up for an older 9N.

Anyway, I checked the 9N's governer and there is no fitting for an oil line, so I am guessing this set up is original, and not something rigged together.

So, can anyone give me a part number for this line to forward to my NH dealer, or will I be better off trying to get one made independently?

Thanks as always.

Odie

Thanks eveyone. Sort of what I expected, but wasn"t sure.

Might show my stupidity, but Don B. - what is your company? I always like to keep an open line for new parts sources....

Odie..... ...yep, the original 9N oil filter return was straight down into the block. Within about 1-years time, Ford discovered the splash-lubed governor balls were wearing. They then discontinued the block oildrain and tubed the oildrain to the governors cup. The modern oiltube drain is still available as well as the necessary oildrain governors cup. It is an 8N governor's cup with proofmeter output, but fits exactly as a 9N governor cup with drain..... .....Dell

Yes, the older units didn't have the line to the governor. It isn't any special line. Take the two ends to match up, measure the length needed (close is OK) and head to any competent parts house and get the required steel brake line, bend it as needed and install. Another option if you don't have a bender is do the same thing and go to any decent mechanic with your old line so he can see the bends required. Most will have brake line in stock and would think they would bend pretty cheap seeing as they don't have to lay under anything and weasel it into a frame like they would have to do with a car.

Go to an auto parts store and check to see if the line is a standard auto brake line. If it is you will need the length and will be able to buy pre made line. I just bought new fuel line for 63 2000 that way. It was about $4.00. I think they are called SAE fittings.

I got out my handy dandy Ford Master Parts Manual for 1939-1952 tractors and guess what? They show the tube, and list it as for 39-47 tractors, but does not give the part number !?!?

Sooooo, I pulled out my Dennis Carpenter catalog and found they still make replacement tubes and THEY list this part as 9N-18666 for $10 ea. (catalog price). See if your NH dealer can find this under that part number.

Good luck,
Dan
