I have a 1946 2N. I bought the tractor about a year ago and the guy I bought it from says it has never been repainted. The way it is now is gray and red. I have always know them to be all grey. So I was wondering if the started painting a few red before the turned out the 8N. I have had one person tell the did paint a few like that before the 8N, but like I said before I've only known them to be grey. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you do indeed have a 1946 2N.....they were grey from the factory, per the Peterson & Beemer Originality Guide. It shouldn't be to hard to find some grey under the red.

They rolled off the floor dark grey.. I personally like ferguson grey from BPS/TSC on my 2n. However.. that said.. Some tractor dealers did repaint some used or old stock ones similar to the 'redbelly' paint job of the 8n to give them a more modern look.. help them sell.. etc. Guess it's possible this one could have been bought repainted by a dealer when new or newish.. most likely though.. it's just been that way since that particular owner got it. Could have picked up that paint anywhere in the last 59 years.. etc.
