A few days ago I posted about loss of compression after doing a valve job. I was directed to check for a loose or missing keeper, I did, it (they) had slipped off one of the valves, reinstalled them and all was good. After putting everything back together, we ran it for a half hour, retorqued the head and other bolts, and called it good. Today, after installing the hood, and rest of the parts, we ran it for 5 minutes. At first, it ran okay, then started missing. Pulled the valve covers and sure enough, another set of keepers had "slipped". This could get old quick!! When I ordered the new valves, the fellow asked me if they were rotating or not, being new to the inside of an N, I said 'dunno...he said I'll send you non rotating valves. After they arrived, it was clear there was a difference. Some of the old valves had a little cup, and a different style keeper than the new ones. We used the new keepers that came with the valves, sort of a V shaped affair, 2 piece. We also used the new guides that came with them. The lifter has an adjuster on it, which we used to set clearances. Should we have installed the little cups, or is there something I'm missing with regard to keeping the keepers on? Thanks Rob
