Well went and did it. Payed 800 for it plus got brush hog and blade with it. Back tires are shot and one rear rim is also. almost new hog, and even got it to run but will need a lot of TLC.
Question is my other 8N has side dist. and its about middle of the engine, this one has side dist. but its up front. Did they make 3 differant types front, front side and mid mount??
Thanks

we'd like to hear more about your od 8n with different distribuitor.

I've seen some distribuitor to magneto conversions.. and also an industrial unit that had an offset front distribuitor using a right angle adapter.. but neither of these sounds like your setup.

Post a sn.. or a pic of your odd mid engine distribuitor setup.. sounds like a re-power to me.

Question: Does your other 8N have 6-cylinders or an overhead valve 4-cylinder?

The 9N/2N/early 8N tractors had a front mount distributer, located on the front of the engine on the right side (from the driver's seat). All later 8N's used the side mount distributer, located at the front of the engine and sticking out the right side of the engine. 1953 (Jubilee) and later tractors (overhead valve engine)had the distributer more toward the center of the engine on the right side. Funk 6-cylinder flathead 8N conversions had the distributer on the left side of the engine near the center of the engine.

Good find on the $800 tractor. You're now the envy of many Ford enthusiasts.

congrats old, you made a real deal, the brushog alone should be worth the 800 , i bought a rino 5 footer last summer and had to go 1000 for it, now you got a "free" tractor and blade too, hope you get her running good, how's the overall condition? ericlb

Well as I said bad rear tires and one rim is bad also. But other then a little rust on the sides of the hood its not to bad. Its still 6 volt but I used a 12 battery to get it running and ran it on the bad tires so the hog would be easyer to load. A friend and I buy tractors off and on and this is one he wants so I will not be keeping it. I did get a WD Allis yesterday for $200 that I will be keeping sort of
