Hi. I have a 1952 8n that has been running great. But all of a sudden it just does not want to start. We have put all new pts, plugs, condenser, dist cap, rotor, alternator (it was converted to 12v), coil, plug wires, new solinoid, battery and carb. I am totally puzzeled.

Has anyone ever had this happen? And if so, would you mind telling me what you found the problem to be. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If this is a side mount distributor there is an insulator that is located under the wire connecting lug that routes the points wire through the side of the distributor housing. If it had deteriorated and allowed the circuit to become grounded at the entry point to the distributor it will not allow ignition.

You can take this attachment completely out of the side of the distributor and simply attach the points wire coming from the ignition coil directly to the ignition points and then dab a bit of silicone glue in the hole with the wire to prevent moisture and dust from entering the distributor.

You didn't tell us if you are getting spark at the plugs. Pull one, ground it out on the head and see if it sparks and what kind of spark if any. Does it pop?, does it fire a few times then quit? Why all the new parts. Hopefully you didn't do all this because it wouldn't run. Is this a recent 12 volt conversion, a resent restoration? More info please. Is it getting gas to the carb.?, gas leaking out carb, did it run ok before all the part replacement. How did it quit? Won't run now but ok when put away last summer. Ran ok pushing snow then quit? Converted to 12V correctly (ask Dell). More you tell us the better to figure out what is wrong.

Paw..... ...what Hooker sez..... .and also..... .check yer sidemount distributor thru-screw insulator. They short out. Also check yer flat-strap points connector inside the distributor, they sometimes crack-open..... ....Dell
