Ford 601 Workmaster Diesel 88NN6015 A on right side of engine under fuel filter. 810835 under right side brake pedals. 310655 or 810655 on spark plug manifold. I really would like to know the year. Thanks Winston

How many horse power ? in reply to Winston W Wilcox, 02-14-2005 06:29:32

Thanks for your help. I've decided that I have a 1960 year, 601 series, 641D model, Ford Diesel tractor. My question is with it's 144 cubic inch Red Tiger OHV Engine, how many horsepower is it? Winston

Winston,
Dell's one of the sharpest guys on the forum. Good idea to read his posts on anything 'cause you'll probably learn something.

OTOH, I think Dell would quite happy if Ford had just stopped making tractors in '52.

You need to check out this link and find the real serial number thats just behind the starter - assuming you actually have a 601 (can't trust paint and decals). Then pop over to the Ford Forum here on yt and just start reading. Even see Dell over there occasionally :)

Winston..... ....I'm glad popajoes enquiry about his 1944 2N inspired you to enquire about your own 601 WorkMaster. Altho this great N-Board "specializes" in the earlier flathead engined 9N/2N/8N, I am happy to report to you that on the left sidebar under "Reasearch & Info", is a catagory called "Serial Numbers" which lists Ford's yearly starting serial numbers starting with s/n 1001 in 1957 to s/n 155531 in 1962. You can do your own research.

Unfortunately, none of your quoted numbers appear to be engine s/n's. 88NN6015A is the engine block part number. According to my information, the s/n is on the left side of the transmission case near the starter.

Iff'n I had to make a guess, "810835", kinda sounds like a s/n 8-10838 which would make it a 1957 model year because #11777 starts model year 1958. But I/ve been wrong before..... ..respectfully, Dell

who reminds you, DIESELS don't have "spark plug manifolds"

As mentioned already, the number calls out a '44 2N. Now I have a question for you. Are your radius rods oval shaped or I-beam? All reports are that the radius rods were changed from I-beam to oval in 1944, but some '44 owners report having I-beam rods. I'm trying to figure out if it was a mid-year change. So which kind do you have?

Here's a link to show you the difference if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
