Hi again folks. I already tried to post this message but it never appeared, so I'm trying again. Please forgive me if you see it twice.

Thanks for all your responses. I will try the distributor suggestions from Zane and Dell. Hooker, the original foot style starter switch has been disconnected and replaced with a new key type mounted on the dash. To Tymoc, the pts, plugs, etc. were all just part of a normal tune up. The alt. was replaced cuz the old one stopped putting out. The tractor was already converted to 12v. when I purchased it and was starting/running fine. The solenoid was sticking, had to tap it with a hammer to get it to engage, so I put on the new one. The old coil died, so hence the new one, and yes, I am getting spark. If I spray starter fluid into the carb it trys to fire, sometimes, not always. The old carb was constantly flooding, so I tried a rebuild kit---no change, so, I put a brand new carb on, but it floods also and runs out the air intake. As far as the way it "quit", last time I used it was to scrape my road, and it did seem to be "popping" a bit while using it. Then I didn't use it for 30 days +/- and now it just wouldn't start.

Hope this info may be of more help, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Paw.

Just for the record, the "foot starter" was designed for a reason: SAFETY. It is not a good idea to replace it with a dash mount. It is very easy to forget and leave the tractor in gear when starting. Please consider changing back to original configuration for your own (and others) safety when around the tractor.

anybody that should be around tractors should know that the very first thing you do when get ready to start it is push in the clutch while in the seat. that way your starter doesn't have to turn the tranny especially in this cold weather

Paw..... ...check your frontmount distributor cap firing order. 1,2,4,3 CCW. That means:

sparkie #1 is connected to nipple #1 at 10 o'clock
sparkie #2 is connected to nipple #2 at 8 o'clock
simple, eh? NOW PAY ATTENTION 'cuz it gittz tricky here
sparkie #4 is connected to nipple #3 at 4 o'clock sparkie #3 is connected to nipple #4 at 2 o'clock
therefore firing order is 1,2,4,3 CCW, isn't that amazing?

HTH..... ..Dell

Have you put any heet or dry gas additive in your fuel. I just went through a problem similar and realized that I had water in the gas. After draining the fuel and putting in new gas, additive and changing the plugs it fired on the first time. worth a try.
