Folks: Have you ever used a moly additive such as Mr. Moly in the U.S. or Molyslip E in Canada in your engine oil? How well did it work? What were the results?

Moly additives are good in assembly lubes for use in newly rebuilt engines but are of little value in engine oils as MOST modern oil filters will quickly capture the moly molecules, removing it from the oil, and potentially plugging the filter in the process.

Moly as you call it was introduced as a low friction adative. It's of no use in tractors as it provides no protection against rust. In industry it is suspended in lubricants to prevent wear in things such as bearings. The problem is that in an engine you must formulate the product so it does not reduce friction to the point of self destruction. A certain amount of friction is needed in an internal combustion engine.

I don't get your answer. It doesn't prevent rust?? You add it to your oil, so you have just as much protection from rust as ever. Reducing friction to the point of self destruction?? What do you mean that engines need some friction? There's nothing in the world that will reduce friction so much that an engine will rev out of control and destroy itself.

Pardon me, I thought you were asking about "Moly" alone, not as an additive to oil. And "wrong" to your friend. If a very high concentration of "Moly" were added to an engine it would blow. "Moly" itself is a dry product, lubricants are used as a carrier, read about it.
I tried to answer your question because I have had extensive experience with the product. So I really don't care if others have pre-conceived notions. Beleive what you wish.

HI Randy, I have to agree with you, I didn"t follow his line of thinking, I guess if friction is that great then one could leave the oil out of the engine or tractor completely in short order you will have more then enough friction. Ooooh yea go for it, but not me I"ll take my chances with less friction.
