got a question guys. i'm going to overhaul my motor. wondering what is the easiest way to remove axle ceter pin? book shows a hand crank being used. what is this critter? if this is a specialty tool,what else can be used. also can you go 20 over and have the sleeves bored? thanks for all the help ya'll have given me so far.

The easiest way to remove the center King Pin is to remove the entire axle and engine support from the engine, then use a 1 1/4" socket or a punch to pound it out from the rear.

Your question of over boring your sleeves depends a good deal on if you have the earlier .040 thin sleeves or the later model .090 thick cast iron sleeves. If you have the earlier sleeves, you cannot over bore, but you can go .020 over with the thick sleeves.

Dan. The blocks meant for the .040 sleevescan be and often are bored out to accomodate the cast iron sleeves. So they can be overbored. Just how much money you throw at it i guess....tim

If you guys can remove the king-pin with a crank handle or a slide hammer you will be doing good. I think those methods were for a tractor that was a year or two old, not 50+ years old.

I had to use a suitable drift and a big sledge hammer to remove mine. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

I had my hand crank and was able to remove the pin with only a reasonable amount of effort by tapping on the crank with a hammer. That's the first time that thing had been out since it's original installation in 1947. It just all depends on how rusty things are down there. PB blaster is your friend!

If you owne an N then you have to own a can of PB Blaster. You wont beleve it until you try it. Spray it on any old rusted nut the day before. The next day break it loose with a wrench and then take it the rest of the way off with your fingers. Like I say you wont beleve it.

I too got lucky with my first removal on my 48 8N, came right out with the hand crank. The kingpin on my 52 8N and my NAA would have broken my crank before they came out. My NAA I had to lay the engine support sideways and use a 1 1/4" socket, lots and lots of Kroil, and a sledge to get it to budge! Must be how many years they spent sleeping outside in the rain...

The book also recommends using a slide hammer. I plan to rplae that very bushing this weekend and plan to pick up a slide hammer at harbor frieght for the removal.
