I'm all rebuilt and ready to reinstall, so went through to set the clearances per the manual. I set the 3/16" clearance on the piston to housing in draft mode, and don't have any of the suggested 1/4" clearance to the bolt head when in position mode. I had it all apart and saw no bent arms, so what gives? I did replace both pins while I was in there, the cam follower was gone, and the other pin that contacts the piston skirt was bent. All the arms and springs and linkage looks passable to me, but it is my first time.

I gotta get me one of those FO manuals so I will know what the heck people are refering to???

I do sell a booklet with a new cam follower pin and a feeler gauge to measure the distance from the bottom of the land on the control valve to the lift housing. That is how Ford school in Georgia taught me to do it by their manual.

One thing you got to do on the NAA control valve linkage is make sure that the place where the pin pivots is set so it will be verticle when completed adjustment. If you leave it so it is horizontal the linkage will bind and never work right.

Without a feeler gauge or the correct distances to the housing to the control valve spool land I don't see how you can acheive the correct adjustment. I am assuming that the 1/4" you are referring to is the amount of thread that is sticking out of the position linkage adjusting rod????? That is not a good way to get it adjusted. Might work on a brand new lift but that tractor ain't new!

If the pin that comes in contact with the ram cylinder was bent you can bet your bottom dollar that the lift at some time was way out of adjustment and the retractor pin was unable to withdraw the control valve to neutral position and that is what bent the retractor pin. Could have been cause too if the pin fell out of the linkage to the control valve and it was in the up position. When this happens something will be bent!

I had problems here as well. You have to set the draft linkage first, then adjust the position control variance by adjusting the position control arm bolt going through the spring. I did not have a jig to ensure I had the upper lift arm set 1/2" above the gasket surface - I had to wing it, and that may come back to bite me. I finally got it pretty darn close. I now hear that Zane has the jig and gages...

Good luck,
Dan
