Rechecked the gap on the points, checked the condenser wire, and re-installed the distributor, coil, and cap, reset all of the plug wires, on the distrib cap and plugs, made sure the rotor was in the right position.

Still no spark at the plugs, I am using an older plug, will get a new plug for testing along with a volt ohm meter if that is the correct meter to purchase.

Thanks for the help.

Bless your heart for trying James, but I wouldn't even look at that distributor again until you have a multimeter.

Here's a list of the test points: Testing Your Work

You didn"t say anything about getting 6 volts to the coil. 1.. look at your ignition switch. Do you have juice OUT. 2.. look at the resistor ,again see if you have 6 volts going to the coil. Check your wiring but good something is bad in the circuit. Remember battery to ignition switch, switch to resistor, resistor to the coil, then you get spark . If still no spark check the coil..Could be open ..

James,
While yer waitin to go shoppin, disconnect the wire to distributor, turn the key on and tap the terminal on top of the distributor with the wire. Might have to try it in the dark to see if you get a spark. If ya don"t, the problem is before the coil. Sounds like you checked everything after the coil, cept new plugs. If it ain"t the plugs, it"s gotta be the coil.
Yes, a VOM (volt-ohm meter) is what you want.
Russ

Russ,
There is only 4 wires out of the distrib cap, do you mean the coil wire? If so, remove the wire to the coil, turn key on, try taping the wire to the top of the coil. Thanks I will go try if right now if you get back to me. Im in Fresno north of you, nice and dark.

James,
My sincere apologies. I was thinkin "coil" and typed "distributor." Little wire on top of COIL should have current when key is on.

I tried the taping of the coil wire while the key was on, not even a tiny spark in the 9pm dark out in the country. I think it is a circuit problem steming from the de-grease and de-crud and wash I gave the old girl. Almost an inch of crud under the hood on the back of the dash. Thanks for the help.
