Ready for this? I ended up putting about an extra two or more quarts of oil in when changing it, for a total of more than 2 gallons- maybe even more. Thing wouldn't start. Tried to pull start and the extry gallon or so flowed out of the air breather tube. Nice long ribbon of oil down my road. Anyway, now it starts, but just runs a few seconds. The plugs are perfectly dry and clean. I get good spark and there's gas. My main question is what could the excess oil have done? keep in mind, my plugs never fouled.

I assume you drained out the excess oil and its now at its proper level. If you have good spark, your points are not oily. My guess is that you are running out of gas in the carburetor since it runs briefly and quits. Another thing you might want to check is your condenser. Hope this helps.

Oil level so high that it ran up and into the distributor and lubricated the points? Just a guess.
