I need to replace the carb on my 1941 9n and would like your opinion on which brand to use. Marvel/Schrebler or Zenith. Thanks Rick.

I know a few years back, the MS copy carbs from TSC weren't too great.. however.. I bought one the other day to retrofit a failed and NLA zenith on an early contental/red seal power unit.. and the carb worked great. i adjusted it pretty much using Dell's conventional idle and mainjet basic instructions.. and it worked perfectly.. with no other adjustments. Their quality is slowly improving.

I have a Red Seal engine in a Jackobsen Homelite tractor. What is the carb model you put on yours?

Installed new Zenith on 2N a few minutes ago. I have two MS carbs in top shape and another new MS copy. Zenith runs and idles better than any of the others..Zenith a little pricey but definitely better idle circuit than the MS in most cases..One of the MS I have will idle down to nothing..

Just gotta know. Why do you think you need to replace the carb. Missing?, Busted? I bet some one on this board has a good original carb. laying around if you ask. If you have one now you CAN rebuild it and it will be better then most of the new ones.

If your old carb can't be rebuilt for some reason do yourself a favor and fine a good used carb, so many of the new aftermarket carbs are giving guys trouble it's not worth the aggrivation of using them. I had the displeasure of buying a new carb and had nothing but trouble with it,after suffering through a score of other tests and troubleshooting I purchased a used carb bolted it up to the 2n and it never ran better.

I replaced the carb on my 41 9N almost a year ago..it had an oversized zenith...I have a lot of experience with zenith carbs on another engine.. the one I took off was too large an thus could not be leaned down enough to stop from running too rich... I replaced it with a Marvel/Schrebler look alike and have no problems with it other than some stray dirt from the old fuel tank... cleaned the tank, put on a new fuel shut off, cleaned the carb and thats it....
