Zane, as I recall you offered me some help on rear hubs that are worn.Your help was "sheming" the splines of the hubs to extend the life of same.I used the advice and torqued them down today and I have "no slack,no wabble,no loose play and seems to be nice and tight.I haven't put it to work yet but will do so soon.Thanks.Will try to let you know how it "tested".

As I remember it was thin metal strips cut from stuff like.. metal strapping bands.. like from pallets.. etc That stuff is harder than regular sheet metal stock..

Oh yeah.. it's probably also possible.. though tedious to fab up some shims that go under the big axle nut , that are cut w/ slots on the ID to have clearance for the beginning of the splines.. that way your big nut doesn't bottom out as fast.. might give you a few more thousandths ( 50k? ) to work with, along with the shim strips...

souNder,
Shimming the nut won"t help the worn hub. Worn hub bottoms on the seal and bearing carrier rather than being stopped by the taper on the splines. Shimming the big nut only loads the bearing.

I mentioned that, only in addition to shimming the splines.. as in, both, together, that way it is still applying pressure to the hub.. and not simply loading the bearing.

The obvious fix is a new 50$?? hub..

Yep, the real fix is not to put a bandaid for "real" repairs but Zane (as I recall) had used this methoed for some time.I'm sure he would advise new hubs for the right fix.I used new ones on my 2n and was exsperiancing difficulty on this one. $$$ and the little wife.Oh well, this shall pass and I'll order new hubs and move in with COACOA my Lab.He likes my company no matter what. John Smith says do it right also. Thanks fellas.
