..... what grade of gas will my 8N like the best? I have been told regular unleaded is fine. Others have to me use an additive(Marvel Oil?). What do you all think?

I added Marvel MO to the gas, and I suspect, that caused additional fouling than just my mediocre rings or valves. If you are burning some oil already (if not GREAT), I wouldn't add the Marvel to it. I find the N and 850 run best on the cheapest gas with low octane and lead. Sort of like drinking Coors Light...it runs good on the cheap stuff, but the last thing we need is Coors Light blowby and rapid succession backfire; that is the absolute worst thing to experience...

Just use the cheap gas. The N will work on 70 octane because of the low compression. Lead isn't needed because of the hardened valve seats, besides you don't want your children to be exposed to the lead.

Buy the cheapest unleaded you can find, and put the money you save into something else to make your tractor happy, like more frequent oil changes or hydraulic fluid changes.
