Could be lots of things. Anything from a bad re-wire.. to coroded points, to no compression, to no fuel due to a gummed up carb. Verify power to the ignition components, and fire at the plugs instead of guessing. First.. use a VOM or test light to see if you have power at the top or input post to the coil. You omitted important info like whether it was front or side mount, or 6v/12v and ground polarity.. etc.. so this will be 'generic' advice. If you dont get power at the input of the coil, temporarilly run a jumper wire from the battery to the input of the coil.. then crank the engine over with a plug wire pulled off a plug and see if you get spark to the block.. or you could use a spare old spark plug grounded to the block to test for spark.. etc. If no spark, check the points.. try running a piece of brown grocery sack thru them with a little pressure. That helps for minor corrosion. A points hone works well to.. just a lick or two will do ya. Recheck fire at plugs... No? Visually verify points are opening and closing as the engine cranks over. If you get fire.. but no 'start'. pull your air cleaner hose and try a whif of ether while you crank.. if it starts on ether and then runs.. you may have low compression. I'd suggest pulling the spark plugs and putting a tablespoon or two of marvel mystery oil down the plug holes and let them set a day.. then run the starter over a few times with a towel over the head to expell any excess oil, then reinstall plugs and go.. the MMO helps loosen stuck rings.. etc. If it starts on eter but dies.. Check fuel flow.. pull the plug on the bottom of the carb bowl and see if you have good flow.. might be a gummed up float valve.. Post back with details, and if you need more info. Soundguy
