My 8n leaks fuel bad. As soon as I turn the gas on it seems to leak out of the bottom of the carb where the drain plug is. I tried to use thread wrap but to no avail. Is this common or should I rebuild it? Is it easy and where can I get diagrams of the carb. Thanks in advance.

THEIR RIGHT. FLOAT NOT SHUTTING FUEL OFF WHEN BOWL IS FULL. THOSE CARBS DON'T HAVE DIAFRAMS.

Ditto what the othe rposter said.. it most likely isn't a leaky fitting.. but is gas leaking due to a dirty float seat.. or the needles is for some reason not seating.. bad float.. hung float.. etc.

Try rapping on the side of the carb with a screwdriver handle once you turn the gas on. If this doesn't do it.. time for a rebuild, or new carb. Also check the fuel screens while you are at it.. if the screens are gone.. you are letting dirt pass to the carb.. etc.

Ninety percent sure the problem is crud under the carb needle valve. Carbs don't get much simpler than the Marvel. For pictures and step by step overhaul instructions see the site at the link below. Not as easy as falling off a log but pretty close.

Your mileage may vary
