I went to a muffler shop with the spec's for what I needed and in about 15 minutes they bent and cut a short section of pipe that did the job. I clamped it on and later welded it and took the clamp off. Cheap and permenant fix. Good luck. Ron

I made and added an 'exhaust diverter' to my N and NAA. It wasn't much more than a car muffler extension, that directed the fumes back another 6-8" and down, or down and angles out to the side. I drilled a couple holes in the add on 'pipe' and used stainless steele machine screws that more or less 'self tapped' thru the soft muffler pipe, and clamped onto the oem tailpipe. The id of the flair section is just a hair more than the od of the tail pipe.. so feel free to use some muffler putty as caulk to keep the fumes headed in the right direction. This works great even when hitching an implement or pulling a hay wagon full of people. It puts the exhaust out to the side.

I tried to post a pic of it.. but the links to the pics here aren't working.

A small story on this was featured in a past article of the N-News... something like a 10$ 10 minute exhaust diverter.. etc.

Vertical exhaust has never bothered me in use on the 2N.

I went to a vertical exhaust stack a few months ago on my '51 8N. Unless the wind is blowing right in your face, the fumes are no problem. The vertical exhaust kits are available at most farm stores for about $20. I altered mine by installing a larger (qieter) muffler and a "turn-down" tip that directs the fumes to the side. The whole thing cost about $50.
