Ok you guys, here is a chance to prove to my wife that my time on this board is not just wasting time.

She has a 100 year old cast iron bed that she had sand blasted and powder coated, very nice.

Now she has polished brass fru fru cylinders that attaches to the bed.

The brass fru fru is actually some metal that has brass sheeting that is attached somehow such as glued or welded that has started to come off in various places on 1 or 2 of them.

The guy who polished them up wouldnt attempt to fix them because of the historical value, but suggested something like JB Weld.

I basically need to brush some metal to metal glue between the brass sheeting and the metal cylinder and c-clamp it together until it dries.

She also said "what would a bunch of tractor guys know about brass beds".

That did it, I got mad and went to work getting the picture and getting it posted cause I know that there is not a lot of difference in restoring a tractor or a bed, and all of you have lots of experience fixing problems.

Thanks in advance. James (actually for Julie)

So Miss Julie, wonders what us tractor guys know about brass beds HUH??? Just what does she think we had to buy for the MRS. so's we could buy our tractors??? LOL We actually had this same problem. JB is awful thick and makes the job a bit lumpy I'd think. I opened the roll up as far as I could, took a fine paint brush and applied HYBOND 80 to boths surfaces. Then I put everything back as tight as I could get it, and yes it closed up just fine. I wrapped the whole job in saran wrap, and then bound it as tight as I could with duct tape. The saran wrap protected the brass surface, the duct tape gave me an "even" pressure on the job and since you let Hybond dry before making contact there was no goop oozing out of the seam. I might mentioned that I cleaned everything as best I could with sand paper and steel wool. My repair is still looking good, 18 years later. Now then Miss Julie, do you know when a woman is about to say something very profound? When she prefaces it with "My husband told me!!" LOL Lordy I'm gonna pay for that one...
Good luck and hope you get it fixed. Ron
