I went up to North River Ruritan Consignment Auction to enjoy the sale today. Here's some of what I saw and some questions:

NH Hayliner "68" square bailer $450.00
Another square bailer 375.00
3-pt 4-wheel rake 210.00
Tedar/rake 1000.00
Small PTO manure spreader (NI) 370.00 Nice 640 w/ROPS & front wheel weights 3800.00 PTO pulley for above 40.00 Ford 3-pt bar mower for above 300.00
2 bottom 3-pt plow 260.00
NH Teddar/rake 675.00
Small disc harrow 310.00
Scraper blade 150.00
Potato plow 3-pt looks homemade (rough) 25.00
light duty boom pole 85.00
small PTO manure spreader 500.00

Did not stay to see five foot 3-pt rototiller sold. Is an N big enough for such a tiller?

How do these prices strike you in your area?

I kept my bid card in my pocket. Look at all the money I saved :>)

Prices sound pretty good. I went to an auction yesterday and stood in the cold blowing snow and mud for almost four hours while household goods were auctioned waiting for the tractor, mower, disc, scraper and especially the plow to be sold. Tractor was an early 8N, front mount(rough condition and wouldn't start) went for $900.00.
Like new 5' mower went for $325.00. The like new 6' disk went for $300.00. The bad condition scraper went for $90.00. And the three point double bottom Dearborn plow went for $225.00. Only me and another guy were bidding on the plow and I can kick myself this morning for dropping out when I did. It was surely worth every penny of what it went for - looked like new. Oh well, guess I'll get over it, but right now I'm feeling pretty LOW! :>(

> Tractor was an early 8N, front mount(rough condition and wouldn't start) went for $900.00. Oh, Man, that's what I'm looking for!

I also saw a very nice JD B which went for $1200.00 (I guess it was the narrow front end and the fact that the auctioneer's man flooded it so it was hard to start, or just not two people "needing" it, which kept it so low).

This is an annual consignment auction for the local Ruritan Club. The auction is in its eleventh year and has gotten bigger each year. Next March I'll try to post the list from the newspaper before the sale. The auctioneer was working as a volunteer and things moved quickly. A few things went for more than they were worth for sure. It was about the most windy day I ever saw. The food was good though, and I ran into a few friends from around the valley.

This afternoon I bring my Jubilee home! Its two range transmission (of some sort) should work a rototiller, from what I read?

even an underdrive transmission is likely to be too fast in ground speed to roto till at 540 PTO rpm

this is one place where live hydralics on the Jubilee are nice so you could keep the roto tiller turning with the clutch depressed

for sure I wouldn't put money into that implement until I had a chance to try it on the tractor I was going to use it on

unless you are going in the truck garden business this might be a place where hiring it done is preferable to buying an implement

your mileage may vary

I could have used that 3pt rake, but VA is a little far to go to save $100.

Paul..... .Unless you have the rare and fragile "Howard" aux tranny, N-Tractors are too high geared for a rototiller. In otherwords, N's need a creeper gear for a rototiller. But N's are 2-bottom plowing fools.

New boom poles $70 at Quality Farm, musta been a good auctioneer (grin)..... ..Dell

Paul, Prices sound pretty good. I am also wondering about tilling with my 9N. I have read that the N won't go slow enough to do any good with a tiller. That's a bummer 'cause it does everything else I want it to do. Ever hear of anybody with a mod to make it slower? Joe

Sure. Install a Sherman or a Hupp under transmission. The over will just make it go faster. Great road gear!
