Well.....I too had a similiar up-bringing....raised on a ranch with 850 acres of range land....and about 20 acres of aerible farm land....and we also never had an accident....but I have to admit.....we had some "damn close calls"!!! Seems to me there are several contributors to tractor accidents where these small N tractors are concerned..... 1. Their size for starters.....yes, they are small....but that does NOT make them toys! Pound for pound there is a lot of power in these utility tractors....and that power MUST be respected. 2. N's are long legged. By that I mean their ground speed is fast compared to other tractors with multi-ranged drive trains. You can be on top of something before you have clearly thought through the consequences....so stay alert! 3. Shredding without an overrunning coupler will eventually ALWAYS result in an accident....ALWAYS!! Which leads me to believe Mr. Ford never intended his "plow master" N series tractor to be a shredding tractor....so understand....you are using a compromised tractor in a non-standard role...and amend your actions accordingly. Also...as a general rule tractor operators should not: 1.Operate their tractor in congested or resticted areas. Tractors are intended for field use and while their manuverability and stability are superb their primary role is as a furrow following mule not an obstacle course cone dodger. 2. Operate their tractor in an area with restricted air space. Bending low under limbs and ducking to avoid guy wires are not only unsafe and unrecommended practices...they are just plain dumb! 3. Operate their tractors without a thorough understanding of the throttle, clutch, and braking systems of their tractors. Regulated (governed) engines are always going to present special cases to be considered where tractor safety is concerned. Finally.....do NOT sell your common sense on E-Bay if you ever intend to operate a tractor. You will need it! Exercise your right as a wild-eyed, hair-brained American to be at one with the industrial tools this great nation makes available to you....just remember to think first.....after all....the life you save could very well be your own!!! Remember....Safety is NO accident!!!! Happy Tractoring!
